Cincinnati Children’s, Toyota, Expand Life-Saving Program

In response to the disproportionate rates of African-American and Hispanic children dying in motor vehicle crashes, Cincinnati Children’s and Toyota are expanding the reach of the Buckle Up for Life safety program.

Orange County, Calif., joins seven other Buckle Up for Life locations, including Cincinnati, Chicago, San Antonio, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Houston. The program was developed in 2004 by trauma specialists at Cincinnati Children’s and vehicle safety experts at Toyota.

Buckle up for Life experts work closely with community churches to reach parents, caregivers and children with critical safety information and expanded access to car seats. In one pilot city, the program nearly tripled the number of children properly restrained in seat belts and car seats among the families who participated.
