Two Awards for Dr. Neil D. Johnson

Neil D. Johnson, MD, is an interventional radiologist for the Department of Radiology and Medical Imaging at Cincinnati Children’s. Dr. Johnson, former medical director of the Vascular Access Team, was awarded the Janet Pettit Scholar in Neonatal and/or Pediatric Vascular Access from the Association for Vascular Access in 2018.

“His numerous publications include landmark work on optimal catheter tip location and decreasing infiltration through color-coded categorization of infusates. The impact of his contributions has been immeasurable, leading to global recognition and adoption that has benefited infants and children worldwide. His pioneering vision inspired his leadership as the medical director to build a cutting edge pediatric vascular access team in one of the leading children’s hospitals in the United States.” – Association for Vascular Access

Dr. Johnson gave two lectures at the Association for Vascular Access conference in Columbus, Ohio:

  • Keynote Address “The Misbehaving PICC”
  • Working with and without teams – Adventures in Pediatric Vascular Access

More recently, Dr. Johnson was awarded the Orthopedic Department HOPE Award for the Highest Orthopedic Patient Experience. The award is given by Cincinnati Children’s Orthopedic Department.

Dr. Peter Sturm, Professor and Faculty of Orthopedics, mentioned in his speech in awarding Dr. Johnson: “We gave you that because whenever you are involved with an Ortho patient… there is a lot of HOPE involved!” In all seriousness, this was a very distinctive award given to those who helped the most in the Orthopedic Department and its clinicians.

Congratulations, Dr. Johnson! Your contributions to Cincinnati Children’s over the years are well recognized and appreciated.
