Radiology 2020 Year Wrap-Up

We can all agree thatĀ 2020 is a year that willĀ notĀ soon beĀ forgotten. Even thoughĀ most ofĀ us wouldĀ like to forget the pandemic portion of the year, some events in our Radiology Department areĀ worthĀ remembering. This is our annual wrap-up of the Radiology Department for 2020.Ā
LetāsĀ begin with our fellow co-workersĀ whoĀ retired from our Radiology Department.Ā Janet AdamsĀ leaves us with 30 years of service in ourĀ ultrasoundĀ division.Ā SheĀ was theĀ fifthĀ ultrasound technologist to joinĀ the division,Ā and clearly her expertise has spanned decades.Ā SusanĀ HelmsĀ wasĀ one of our seniorĀ interventional radiologyĀ technologists,Ā having workedĀ in ourĀ IRĀ division for 28 years.Ā
Awards were given to several of ourĀ faculty andĀ staff members.Ā Chelsea FranklinĀ andĀ Tricia RudyĀ were both given the Safety Award.Ā Keith StraussĀ (RadiologyĀ physicist) was recognized by the Society for Pediatric Radiology as an Honorary Member.Ā Dr. Neil JohnsonĀ receivedĀ two awards, the Janet Pettit Scholar in Neonatal/Pediatric Vascular Access and the Orthopedic Department HOPE Award.Ā Dr. JonathanĀ DillmanĀ was elected to the Board of Governors of theĀ American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.Ā Dr. AlanĀ OestreichĀ wasĀ awardedĀ theĀ Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR)Ā 2020 SINGLETON-TAYBI AWARD.Ā Dr.Ā BethĀ Kline-FathĀ wasĀ awarded the SPR 2020 Presidential Recognition Award.Ā We celebrated ourĀ 2019-2020Ā fellowsĀ byĀ hostingĀ aĀ graduation dinner andĀ awarding them their fellowship certificates.Ā
As for new employees, letās just say we hired on a bunch ofĀ technologists, nurses andĀ faculty.Ā A newĀ batchĀ ofĀ fellowsĀ joined our family for the 2020-2021 year.Ā We also had a new group ofĀ summerĀ studentsĀ whoĀ came on to help with research and presented their projects at the end of the summer rotation.Ā
Other newsworthy events included addedĀ features to ourĀ MyChartĀ application,Ā the re-opening ofĀ ourĀ Kenwood location,Ā an increase in the use ofĀ remote learningĀ andĀ the installation of aĀ newĀ CT PETĀ scanner.Ā The CT PET scanner located in ourĀ nuclearĀ medicineĀ divisionĀ is the first ofĀ itsĀ type to be installedĀ inĀ the world!Ā The new scanner allows us to scan our patients fasterĀ withĀ lower radiation doses and greater clarity of images.Ā
HopefullyĀ 2021Ā will bring us more awards, employees and newĀ discoveries.Ā
