A baby’s BMI may predict early obesity
Researchers at Cincinnati Children’s discovered that a child’s body mass index (BMI) can be used to determine whether or not a child is likely to develop severe obesity as early as six months old.
“We recommend that pediatricians start to monitor BMI at 6 months of age and onward,” said Allison Smego, MD, clinical fellow, Endocrinology. “We think we really should be more concerned earlier in order to prevent obesity, instead of playing catch up.”
