Breakthrough technology helping lengthen patients’ limbs

Orthopedic specialists at Cincinnati Children’s are using breakthrough technology to lengthen patients’ limbs.

Marc Gaynor broke his leg a few years ago and damaged his growth plate resulting in one leg becoming shorter than the other. The orthopedic team at Cincinnati Children’s led by Dr. Jim McCarthy lengthened Gaynor’s limb using new technology to place a rod inside his bone with a magnet outside of the body to lengthen the bone.

WKRC Local 12 shows how this procedure has improved Gaynor’s life.
