Children’s to Open Pet Visiting Center for Patients

Cincinnati Children’s broke ground recently on a new Family Pet Center that will allow patients on extended stays to visit with their own family pets.

The center, which will feature visitation bays that are wheelchair and stretcher accessible, is believed to be the first pediatric hospital-based facility in the U.S. to reunite patients with their own pets.

The Family Pet Center is made possible thanks to a $107,500 grant awarded to CancerFreeKIDS from Impact 100.

“We are so excited because it will be the first in the country,” said Ellen Flannery, executive director of CancerFree KIDS. “It’s exciting, too, because we have also committed to fund research to share the outcome of the facility with other pediatric hospitals to create more pet centers.”

The center is expected to be complete in August.
