Dr. Michael Sorter Weighs in on Shortage of Child Psychiatrists
A Cincinnati mother is searching for resources and support to help her deal with the mental health issues of her 13-year-old son who suffers from early-onset bipolar disorder, autism and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Dr. Michael Sorter at Cincinnati Children’s weighs in on the shortage of child psychiatrists who can help in these situations.
“The number of child psychiatrists is probably about one fourth of what it needs to be,” Sorter said. “There’s only about 8,830 in the country. And we need about 30,000.”
