Drew Lachey Offers Car Seat Safety Tips

Drew Lachey of 98 degrees joined Toyota and Cincinnati Children’s to help spread awareness about car seat safety.  The initiative, named Buckle Up For Life, aims to educate parents about the importance of car seats, help them find the most appropriate one, teach proper installation, and offer where to get help if needed. In his interview with HuffPost Live, he mentioned four helpful tips for parents, which are some of Buckle Up for Life’s best practices:

1. The inch test. A properly installed car seat should not move more than in inch from side-to-side or front-to-back.

2. The pinch test. When your child is properly secured in the car seat, you should not be able to pinch excess harness strapping above the shoulder.

3. Choose either the seat belt or LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system to secure the car seat in place. Not both.

4. Keep your child in the backseat until he or she is 13 years old.
