Health Exchanges Have Limited Physician, Hospital Networks
As hundreds of thousands of Americans shop for health insurance plans on the new online health exchanges, they’re finding that many insurers have limited their choice of physicians and hospitals.
The Cincinnati Enquirer analyzed local insurance offerings, some of which leave out top hospitals and doctors.
Cincinnati Children’s accepts plans from three of the seven insurers in Ohio, and two of the five plans offered in Kentucky.
“Contract negotiations are always confidential, but we are talking to other plans,” said Mike Taylor, vice president of payor relations at Cincinnati Children’s. “Some of them have told us very specifically they are only targeting adults with their products so they don’t see a reason to have a contract with us.”
