Little Girl Receives New Heart on Valentine’s Day at Children’s Hospital

Her family calls it their Valentine’s Day miracle. That’s the day 3-year-old Trinity Lazo, who suffers from cardiomyopathy, received a life-saving heart transplant at Cincinnati Children’s.

Before coming to Cincinnati, the Lazo family, from Gastonia, N.C., had been to ten different doctors, all of whom told them nothing more could be done to help Trinity. Then in January, the family found Dr. David Morales and Dr. Clifford Chin at Cincinnati Children’s Heart Institute.

The transplant surgery took about nine hours. Trinity is doing well and is expected to remain hospitalized for a few more weeks.

“What is the greatest gift any family going through a tragedy could offer any family than to offer them the chance to live, and that’s what that donor family did for us,” said Monica Lazo, Trinity’s mother.
