New Antimicrobial Stewardship Program Launched by Cincinnati Children’s
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center has launched the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program to protect against overuse of antibiotics, an issue that has largely contributed to antibiotic resistance and poses an international health risk.
“The goal of antimicrobial stewardship is to help doctors choose the best antibiotic, at the best dose, for the correct duration of time. Our goal is to try to limit potential overuse of antibiotics or overexposure to antibiotics, but still effectively treat the infections,” said Dr. David Haslam, infectious disease specialist at Cincinnati Children’s and director of the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program.
