Parents may be in a fog when children come home from hospital

A new study in Pediatrics found that parents caring for children discharged from the hospital have a difficult time transitioning home and report significant stress and feeling as if they’re “in a fog.” This may make it harder for parents to process information, such as instructions for their child’s care.

“This allowed us to paint a much clearer picture about what a hospital to home transition looks like from the family perspective and identify some of the main challenges families face as they try to have a smooth transition home,” said Dr. Lauren G. Solan, lead author of the study and a fellow at Cincinnati Children’s while the study was conducted.
