Patient thanks medical team for lifesaving heart transplant

25-year-old David Franz has survived being born with a single ventricle, multiple open-heart surgeries, heart failure, a temporary device to assist his heart to pump, the dislodging of this device requiring a full volume of blood to be replaced, a possible loss of blood flow and oxygen to the brain, a surgically implanted heart pump, numerous gastrointestinal bleeds, and finally a 22-hour heart transplant that required two temporary devices to support his new heart.

David is the proverbial miracle patient, and he came back to thank the medical staff at Cincinnati Children’s for getting him to this point.
