Alexis Shapiro Update: Texas Girl on Track After Obesity Surgery

Two months after 12-year-old Alexis Shapiro underwent obesity surgery to halt out-of-control weight gain and ravenous hunger that sent her climbing past 200 pounds, the San Antonio-area girl is finding her way to a new normal.

She has lost 33 pounds since March 21. That’s when doctors at Cincinnati Children’s took steps to reverse the effects of a medical condition triggered by brain surgery that knocked Alexis’ metabolism haywire and left her body with no way of regulating energy or appetite.

NBC News has an update on Alexis’ condition.
