Virtual Autopsy Performed on Mummy
Cutting-edge technology at Cincinnati Children’s allowed a virtual autopsy to be performed on a child mummy from Peru. The mummy is part of an exhibit at the Cincinnati Museum Center.
On Wednesday, the hospital conducted a CT scan on the mummy, which provided three-dimensional data, allowing doctors to virtually explore the outside and inside of the child’s body. It should enable researchers to determine the gender of the child and perhaps the cause of death.
The Cincinnati Enquirer detailed the lead-up to the virtual autopsy, and three local TV stations covered the initial take-away from the procedure. Read more and watch videos at WLWT.com, WKRC.com and WCPO.com.
