Post Date: June 18, 2019
Welcome 2019 Radiology Summer Research Students!

We have four new Radiology Summer Research students beginning this month. Every summer the Radiology Department hires four second-year medical students from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center to aid our faculty in their research projects. Beginning from the left of the featured photograph is Alex Boyarko, Jimmy Castiglione, Sonia Himed and Harry Taylor.

Alex Boyarko’s hometown is Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. He will be working with Drs. Dillman and Trout on their project called, “Quantitative Compressed Sensing MRI in Children.” Alex’s favorite pastime is drinking coffee.

Jimmy Castiglione comes to us from Monroeville, Pennsylvania. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Bioinformatics. His faculty mentors will be our clinical medical physicists Samuel Brady and Elan Somasundaram. They will be working on a project called, “Normal Ranges of Skeletal Muscle Mass Estimated through Automated Segmentation of Computed Tomography Images in Healthy Children Ages 0 through 18 Years.” When Jimmy is not hitting the books, he enjoys weightlifting.

Sonia Himed comes to us from Dayton, Ohio. Sonia graduated from Wright State University with a degree in Biomedical Engineering. Her faculty mentor will be Dr. Fleck. She will be working with him on a project called, “Does the Pattern of airway collapse seen on MRI or endoscopy affect the patient compliance for CPAP?” Even though Sonia has a lot on her schedule, that doesn’t stop her from enjoying going for runs, reading mystery novels, and trying out new recipes.

Harry Taylor’s hometown is nearby Mason, Ohio. He attended The Ohio State University with a degree in Neuroscience. His faculty mentors will be Drs. Dillman and Trout. Harry will be working on a project, titled “Sarcopenia and Pediatric Crohn’s Disease.” In his personal time Harry enjoys exercising, soccer, watching his favorite sports teams (Cincinnati Reds, Cincinnati Bengals, The Ohio State University) and spending time with friends and family.

To these four young students we say, “Welcome to Radiology!” May your summer be fruitful and rewarding.
