A Goodbye From Sparkle

A Goodbye From Sparkle

Seven years. That’s how much time has passed since I arrived at Cincinnati Children’s. I think about all that I have accomplished, all that I have learned, all the people I have met, and most importantly for me, all the countless moments of pure inspiration I have been so privileged to encounter.

For the past two years of my Cincinnati Children’s journey, the Radiology Department has been home. I was lucky to be on an exceptional team (Shawna Viox, Kyra Thomas, Rich Giordano, Jenn Schmidt, Lori Holthaus and Deena Byrd) with the most incredible and supportive manager, Lisa Ulland. Drs. Andrew Trout (Director of Clinical Research) and Jonathan Dillman (Associate Chief of Research and Medical Director of the Imaging Research Center) were the world’s greatest mentors and I am confident that the work we have done to grow our research in Radiology will continue to support the institution’s awesome community and global mission.

My team became a second family and I know that we will stay close no matter where life takes us. Life is taking me on a new adventure, one that I am so excited for! With that excitement comes a lot of sadness though. I’m leaving “home” and that is never easy. But I am holding onto the extraordinary memories that will last a lifetime: having my desk decorated for every birthday and life event, all the inside jokes that never got old, seeing the faces of some of my dear Radiology friends as I walked down the aisle as a new bride, the surprise parties we threw for each other, the fitness competitions we couldn’t get enough of, the team outings, and the volunteering events at Rothenberg Preparatory Academy that were so precious.

It won’t be easy leaving Cincinnati Children’s to take on the next part of my career. I truly do love this place! But I know great things are ahead for me. As I’m saying goodbye, trying not to cry, I’m reminded of words from my favorite book:

“Congratulations!
Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!

You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose.”

-Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

Stay Extraordinary, Radiology. I’ll miss you so!
