BPD Symposium 2019: Advances in Diagnosis & Management

The BPD Symposium on Monday at Cincinnati Children’s (“BPD: Advances in Diagnosis & Management”) is designed for neonatologists, pulmonologists, cardiologists, radiologists, advanced practice nurses, nurses, respiratory therapists and researchers involved in the care of patients with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD). This national conference will provide updates on novel approaches for the imaging, diagnosis, and treatment of BPD in neonates through adolescence. Topics will include mechanisms of lung injury, BPD pathophysiology, and the evaluation and management of airway, lung parenchymal disease, and pulmonary hypertension.

A particularly novel and exciting element of the conference is a session on the approach we’ve taken in Cincinnati at the newly formed BPD Center, where imaging takes a front seat in precision medicine. By capitalizing on new techniques pioneered by the Center for Pulmonary Imaging Research, the clinical BPD team is able to better tailor approaches to treatment that focus on parenchymal, cardiac, and/or airway abnormalities in these babies. With a multidisciplinary approach to clinical care, neonatologists, radiologists, pulmonologists, and cardiologists round together and meet regularly to form the best short- and long-term care plans for all of our patients with BPD.
