For those of you lucky enough to have been following the Cincinnati Children’s Radiology Blog from the very beginning (feel free to venture back if you think you may have missed anything), you can confirm Cincinnati Children’s strives to keep our technologies and practices up to date and at an important level of priority. Bringing you and your family only the newest capabilities and highest of quality imaging.
To maintain our status as “the leader in improving child health”, like mentioned in the Cincinnati Children’s Mission Statement, we are constantly challenged to somehow advance our procedures and simultaneously cause the least amount of inconvenience as possible during the process. Unfortunately, there are certain situations where inconvenience cannot be avoided and temporary rerouting must be put into action.
Starting mid-May and expecting to last until July, the MRI scanner located at the Cincinnati Children’s Liberty Campus will be temporarily shut down for hardware upgrades and construction. The GE 1.5T scanner in the department will be promoted to a GE 3T scanner, which will allow higher resolutions and greater overall image quality for specific exams. Because this change from a 1.5T to a 3T includes massive equipment augmentation (taking weeks) we must keep the Liberty MRI machine out of commission for longer than a simple software switch (usually take a few hours).
The good news is our other locations (Main Base, Kenwood, and Green Township) will not be affected by the construction. With a wide range of hours and scanner capabilities, the other site locations are ready to take on the extra load and excited to see some new faces. We would certainly like to apologize for any inconvenience ahead of time and encourage you to try a new adventure at a different site. Considering the Liberty techs will be momentarily relocated during the project as well, who knows, maybe you will still see a familiar face after all. Ultimately our goal is to keep construction downtime to a minimum and get you back to the location of your choice as soon as possible.
