Introducing Our New Erkenbrecher MRI Location

Editor’s note: This is the third part in a series of blog posts describing how the construction of Cincinnati Children’s new Critical Care Building will affect the MRI services in the Radiology Department. The previous posts described why the construction may impact our MRI services and how we are using physics and new technology to monitor for changes in image quality of our MRI scanners. Today’s blog post describes a new, temporary location where your child can get his or her MRI. Upcoming posts will describe other new imaging locations and new services we will be offering. Keep checking back on our blog for more exciting news!

If you have been to our Burnet location recently, you will have noticed that there is construction along the north side of the hospital at Erkenbrecher. The construction is to build our new Critical Care Building. This new building will allow us to continue to provide the highest quality care to our most sick patients.  Unfortunately, because the Radiology Department’s MRI machines are along the north wall of the B-Building, the early part of the construction will affect their ability to create high quality images. Even though we are using physics and cutting edge technology to monitor these machines, we have also decided to open a new, temporary location at 3404 Burnet Avenue for our outpatient MRI services.

Our new MRI location is located on the corner of Burnet Avenue and Erkenbrecher Avenue, across from the Ronald McDonald House and diagonal from the main hospital building. The new Erkenbrecher MRI location has two brand new MRI scanners and a small parking lot with six parking spots. If you have an appointment at the Erkenbrecher MRI location, feel free to park in the lot or in the Northern Avenue Garage located behind the Cincinnati Children’s Medical Office Building.

The Erkenbrecher MRI Unit will be open and available to schedule outpatient appointments starting October 1, 2018. Please let us know ahead of time if your child needs special services such as help getting an IV or assistance from Child Life so that we can make the accomodations for your child. If you have any questions about our new locations or want to schedule your MRI, call us at (513) 636-1320. While we are excited about our new location, we also realize that the change is temporary.  We expect to use this location into the spring of 2019. Once the heavy digging is complete and the steel beams for the new Critical Care Building have been placed, we will be able to move back into our permanent space in the B-Building.
