 Avalonia Ava McCloud

Hi, I’m Avalonia “Ava” McCloud, but you can just call me Ava. I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia and came to Cincinnati for my medical education. Cincinnati is more of a relaxed town as compared to Atlanta—not much of the hustle and bustle of a big city, which I like. Winters here are a lot to get used to compared to the South. Summers in Atlanta are more of a dry heat as opposed to the high humidity here in Cincinnati.

I came to Xavier University as a nursing student. In the summertime, I did some shadow rotations and liked working in the Radiology field. That is when I decided to change careers and come to Radiology as a technologist.

I chose to come to Cincinnati Children’s because I really like working with kids. Cincinnati Children’s has a reputation that attracts patients and families from all over the country and the world and I wanted to be part of that.

My hobbies are taking naps and yoga. Before Covid, I used to go hiking at the local parks.

The last television that I watched was a Netflix show called You. The last book that I read was a history book, because I’m still in school right now.

Candy Matos, RRA

Hello, my name is Candy Matos and I’m one of the new Reading Room assistants. I’m Dominican but Puerto Rican-born. I spent my childhood living in both San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

I’d like to think I’m a selfless person and I love helping others. Once I got my first job in healthcare, that only amplified how much I love being in healthcare and working with patients. I choose to work at Cincinnati Children’s because it’s one of the best pediatric hospitals in the country and one of the best employers for women!

Since starting school as a radiology technologist, I don’t have much time for hobbies, but during fall break, I will be spending it reading lots and lots of books and catching up on Netflix. And maybe going to a few painting classes! The last book read was Laws of Human Nature by Robert Greene (best book I’ve read thus far) and the last movie I saw was Wine Country.

Rhonda Barnhart

Hi, my name is Rhonda Barnhart. I was born in Richmond, Indiana, but spent most of my childhood in Richmond, Kentucky. I married my high school sweetheart, Phil, and we moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. We have been married for 35 years, have two wonderful adult sons, as well as a beautiful granddaughter who calls me “MiMi.” I like spending my time with my family, spoiling my granddaughter, reading inspirational novels, doing jigsaw puzzles, and seeing movies with my husband.

I have been working at Cincinnati Children’s for 15 years and was originally referred by a friend to be an administrative assistant in Pediatric Gastroenterology. My office area is in the Kasota building, and I’ll be working closely with our business administration, support administration team, faculty, processing service contracts, billing, etc. I am excited to start this new opportunity in Radiology working with all of you!

Casey Gutschow

Hi, my name is Casey Gutschow. I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin. (Lots of beer, cheese, and Green Bay Packers pride!) I obtained my bachelor’s degree through the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and completed my clinicals at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics

I have a dog named Girlie and a cat named Chi with my fiancé Ellis. We just recently got engaged, so if anyone has wedding planning tips, feel free to share those with me!

I love reading, baking, and hanging out with my three sisters. I usually spend my weekends exploring Cincinnati since I just recently moved here. I am so excited to join the team here at Cincinnati Children’s and meet you all!

Kyle Bolender

Hello! My name is Kyle Bolender. I graduated from the University of Mount Union in 2018 with a degree in Exercise Science.

I am currently a student at University of Cincinnati Blue Ash for their Rad Tech program and plan to graduate in 2023. My hobbies include running, as I ran cross country and track for 10 years, and I enjoy golfing when I can. I currently live in Loveland with my girlfriend of five years and our three-year-old Husky/corgi mix named Kygo. I have an older sister who has two children, my three-year-old nephew and my three-month-old niece who I enjoy spending time with. I am so excited to start my journey with Cincinnati Children’s!

Kelsey Andersen

Hello everyone! I’m Kelsey Andersen. I’m a 2020 grad from Roger Bacon High School. I have lived in Cincinnati my entire life. I attend UC Blue Ash and I was recently admitted into the Radiologic Technology program. Being a former gymnast, I had tons of X-rays and became interested in radiology because of that.

In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, playing board games with my family and friends, and going out to eat!

I am super excited to start my journey at Cincinnati Children’s, this time as an employee and not a patient!
