Moving in the Right Direction: Updates on MRI

As many of you may know, either from following the Cincinnati Children’s Radiology blog or by experiencing it personally, there have been quite a few changes for the MRI Division recently. These changes are the result of the ongoing construction of the new Critical Care Building and have included the temporary addition of our Erkenbrecher MRI location and changes in our daily operations. We are thrilled to announce that the major impact of the contraction has now passed.

In our previous articles, Construction of New Critical Care Building May Affect MRI Service and Preparing for Construction of the Critical Care Building in MRI, we were able to explain how the deep drilling and construction of the new Critical Care Tower’s steel frame had the potential to affect the image quality in MRI. As the construction started, we used advanced physics to perform daily testing on the individual machines to discover if and how the construction outside was truly affecting our pictures. Now that this early stage of construction is complete, we know that your child’s images will no longer be affected.

As of January 2019, the Radiology Department’s MRI physicists, Dr. Jean Tkach, and Dr. Samuel Brady, both approved the MRI Division to return to its home on the first floor of the B-Building. Our temporary Erkenbrecher MRI location will remain open for another few months as we continue to upgrade some of our MRI scanners.

Finally, we have been able to move our weekend general anesthesia appointments back from the Liberty Campus to the Burnet Campus.
