If you bring your child in to the Burnet campus for an MRI scan in August, you may notice a lot of construction going on throughout the department. This is because we are replacing one of our 3 Tesla MRI scanners and rebuilding the hallway that leads to it.
You may wonder why this is happening now. Well, when our 3rd and 4th MRI scanners were initially installed, we put them into the best location we had available, but because we were required to fit them into a pre-existing spaces, we didn’t have a lot of choice in deciding where halls and doorways were located. Now that we have been using the scanners for over a year, we realize that we need to make some adjustments to enhance MRI safety. These adjustments will help to keep the area around the MRI scanners safer and more convenient for everyone. By having doorways secured and located in optimal positions, we can better limit the number of people near the MRI scanners and make them safe for all of our patients and fellow employees.
We expect to be done with all our construction by Labor Day, and once completed, we expect patient flow to be even better and smoother than before. So please excuse any inconvenience our work may cause between the end of July and the beginning of September, and know we are always looking for ways to improve so that we can provide the best and safest care possible for you and your child.
