It has now been about a month since the MRI Division in the Department of Radiology has discontinued the use of our inefficient dry erase board and adopted the brand new electronic status boards. Aside from the initial technical errors and slight learning curve (which can be expected when changing to a new process), everything has run fairly smoothly. As previously mentioned within the status board construction blog article, as a patient or family member to a patient, you will not directly notice anything different in your process. You will continue to check in and register in the Radiology waiting room and then you will be escorted back into the MRI division for further paperwork and screening before beginning your child’s exam.

One thing you may notice is the beautiful soft glow illuminating from our shiny new boards as you walk through the MRI hallways. With this new addition, communication is more immediate and easier to understand, which will help patient flow transitions and the overall workings of the department. Also, since this technology is directly connected to our EPIC charting system, it will allow for important patient care information to be displayed simply and boldly at a glance. Ideally this will help us prepare for each patient’s individual needs before they arrive and have instantaneous information if required.
Please allow us to reassure you and your family again that this technological addition will not directly affect your future appointments and the current radiology process, but rather it will decrease wait times and give us much needed information on ways to improve your visit. Hopefully together we can continue to tighten up the loose ends and create a smoother and more stress-free process for your future MRI appointments.
