Radiology 2020 Year Wrap-Up

We can all agree that 2020 is a year that will not soon be forgotten. Even though most of us would like to forget the pandemic portion of the year, some events in our Radiology Department are worth remembering. This is our annual wrap-up of the Radiology Department for 2020.

Lets begin with our fellow co-workers who retired from our Radiology Department. Janet Adams leaves us with 30 years of service in our ultrasound division. She was the fifth ultrasound technologist to join the divisionand clearly her expertise has spanned decades. Susan Helms was one of our senior interventional radiology technologists, having worked in our IR division for 28 years.

Awards were given to several of our faculty and staff members. Chelsea Franklin and Tricia Rudy were both given the Safety Award. Keith Strauss (Radiology physicist) was recognized by the Society for Pediatric Radiology as an Honorary Member. Dr. Neil Johnson received two awards, the Janet Pettit Scholar in Neonatal/Pediatric Vascular Access and the Orthopedic Department HOPE Award. Dr. Jonathan Dillman was elected to the Board of Governors of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. Dr. Alan Oestreich was awarded the Society for Pediatric Radiology (SPR) 2020 SINGLETON-TAYBI AWARDDr. Beth Kline-Fath was awarded the SPR 2020 Presidential Recognition AwardWe celebrated our 2019-2020 fellows by hosting a graduation dinner and awarding them their fellowship certificates.

As for new employees, let’s just say we hired on a bunch of technologists, nurses and faculty. A new batch of fellows joined our family for the 2020-2021 year. We also had a new group of summer students who came on to help with research and presented their projects at the end of the summer rotation.

NEW PET CT SCANNER_091329_915x430

Other newsworthy events included added features to our MyChart applicationthe re-opening of our Kenwood locationan increase in the use of remote learning and the installation of a new CT PET scannerThe CT PET scanner located in our nuclear medicine division is the first of its type to be installed in the world! The new scanner allows us to scan our patients faster with lower radiation doses and greater clarity of images.

Hopefully 2021 will bring us more awards, employees and new discoveries.
