The Beryl Institute, a premier leader in improving the patient experience, defines the patient experience as the “sum of all interactions, shaped by an organization’s culture, that influence patient perceptions across the continuum of care.” Originally proposed by the Beryl Institute, Patient Experience Week (PX Week) is an annual event that focuses on celebrating the impact that our healthcare staff has on improving the patient experience each and every day.

This year, Cincinnati Children’s Radiology Department is celebrating Patient Experience Week April 27-May 1st. We’ve planned an exciting week of special events to honor our patients and families who inspire us to improve our patient and family experiences.  In addition, we will gather to re-energize our employees and compliment their efforts, reminding them of the impact that they have on our patients and families each time they visit our department, whether it be for a short radiography exam, a longer imaging study under anesthesia, or a more complicated procedure performed in our interventional suite.

Some of the planned events include sharing an inspirational video from the parent of one of our dear patients. We will also announce the winner of the Radiology Patient Experience award and share written nominations with each nominee while enjoying an ice cream treat with our colleagues in radiology. Later in the week, staff is invited to a presentation about how to care for our families coming from the Arab Gulf. A new event this year will be working together as a team to donate items, assemble care packages and prepare snacks in support of our guest families at the Ronald McDonald House.
