Radiology: Thank You to Our Nurses!

Today marks the beginning of National Nurses Week (May 6-12). From direct patient care to research, care coordination, simulation, education, and leadership roles, Cincinnati Children’s nurses make up more than 25 percent of our employees. In our MRI division, our anesthesia nurses play an important role in imaging our patients.

In medical imaging, just as in regular photography, a still or non-moving subject could mean the difference between a sharp/high-detailed image or a blurry one. An MRI procedure may take several minutes as our technologists must capture a set of images. The procedure can get complicated with an infant that cannot stay still or a patient who is anxious about being in an enclosed space.

Enter our anesthesia nurses who assist us, along with anesthesiologists, to get our patients ready for their MRI exams. With their help, they allow us to capture highly detailed images by keeping our patients still. They are with the patient before the exam and stay with them, in the recovery room, after the exam.

Thank you to all Cincinnati Children’s nurses, not just the ones working with us in Radiology, for your incredible skills and compassion in making a difference in the lives of others.
