Radiologist Finds Tumor Board Conferences to be Rewarding

One of the things that I enjoy most about my job here at Cincinnati Children’s is being involved in interdisciplinary conferences. This past year I became involved in our Neuro-oncology Tumor Board, and it has been a tremendous experience for me.

Every week on Wednesday afternoon, our extraordinarily busy colleagues in Neuro-oncology, Neuropathology, Neurosurgery, Neurology and Radiation Oncology (just to name a few!) come to the Radiology Department to review the imaging studies performed in the past week of the Neuro-oncology patients being cared for here at Cincinnati Children’s.

As a radiologist, I have found this experience to be particularly rewarding for many reasons. First, I am able to learn so much about the treatment and pathologies of the various brain tumors from my colleagues, which allows me to grow as a radiologist and provide more accurate and clinically relevant reports. Second, it allows me to be part of a team of extraordinary individuals to help in patient care in a way that inspires me to strive to provide the best possible service for these patients. I am impressed by how much thought and care goes into each patient’s management, and there is no doubt in my mind that each patient we discuss is really getting the best care possible.
