Welcome Dr. Aki Tanimoto, New Radiology Faculty

Hi, my name is Aki Tanimoto and I’m one of the new faculty radiologists at Cincinnati Children’s. I specialize in cardioradiology and general radiology section.

I grew up in Okemos, Michigan. Okemos was a nice quiet town to grow up in during the ‘90s. There were many children my age in the neighborhood I grew up in, and we would ride our bikes together all day during the summer, going from house to house for snacks. I miss the maple syrup from the local maple farm in town called Sugar Bush Supplies.

I wasn’t sure what to do with my career during/after college and spent some time doing field research, working in fashion, and teaching English in Japan. What I enjoyed most about these jobs was the ability to collaborate with others, the creativity the work required, and the close personal connections that were necessary for a job well done. I thought medicine would be a good fit for me as it combined everything I loved about those jobs.

I lived in Japan for a little over a year. The best part of living there was spending time with my family, especially my maternal grandparents, whom I visited at least once a month during my time there.

I am very excited about the opportunity to work with other clinicians and radiologists who are passionate about advancing the care of pediatric patients, particularly regarding pediatric pulmonary and congenital heart disease.

In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my daughter and husband as we explore the Cincinnati area.  The last movie I watched was Luca, and the last book I read was Ada Twist, Scientist by Andrea Beaty – my daughter loved it!
