Welcome To Our New Physicist – Joseph Meier

My name is Joseph (Joe) Meier. I was born, raised, and educated in Texas, but most importantly during my time there, I met my wife, Kristine. My mother is an RN, and so I have always heard of the joy that comes from caring for others when they are sick.

I majored in Physics and English Literature during my undergrad studies, and pursuing the field of medical physics was a natural fit. I worked at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Imaging Physics department, and later at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, I pursued a Ph.D. in Medical Physics concerning Positron Emission Tomography respiratory motion correction with Osama Mawlawi as my research advisor. My goal in pursuing this degree and later a residency at the University of Wisconsin was to work in a hospital where I have very close contact with the clinic and conduct clinically oriented research.

This job at Cincinnati Children’s, which I have been fortunate enough to obtain, combines all of these elements and, most importantly, I know that I am part of an excellent team that delivers exceptional care to children. My job has three components:

  • Perform routine accreditation testing on all diagnostic imaging equipment.
  • Optimize imaging protocol through collaboration with industry and the radiologists.
  • Perform research.

I am excited about spending time outdoors in this wonderful Ohio climate that is somewhere between the Houston and Wisconsin extremes, which I have recently escaped.
