This month we added more new employees to our Radiology family. One is a new administrative assistant and the others are MRI technologists who graduated together from the University of Cincinnati. Here are their short biographies below:
Hello, my name is Katelyn (Kate) Pope and I am the newest administrative assistant for the Radiology Department. I was raised in Harrison, Ohio, and that is where I currently reside. I grew up on the same family farm that my great grandfather built in 1918. My grandfather was born in the home, and my father and his seven siblings were all raised in the house as well. I spent much of my childhood fall days in tractors/fields and spent my summers on the river at Green Acres, my family’s canoe and kayak rental. (check them out!) Kayaking is one of my favorite things to do!
I am thrilled to have joined the Cincinnati Children’s team! I worked as a medical assistant at another local hospital for five years. I knew I wanted to be in healthcare very early on. I became a nurse aide at 17. I worked as a preschool teacher for a few years and, being from a large family, I’ve always adored kids. My mother has been at Children’s for nearly ten years and hearing about her experiences and growth at the hospital made it an even easier decision for me to make. I’m looking forward to working with everyone here!
Hi, my name is Megan Ruffing and I am an MRI technologist at Cincinnati Children’s Burnet Campus.
I was born and raised in Cincinnati, OH. One of my favorite childhood memories is my family hosting an annual Fourth of July block party in our backyard. All of the neighbors would bring food and drinks to share. We had a bunch of games for the neighborhood kids to play and a corn hole tournament for the adults. The local fire department would also come and lead a parade around our neighborhood.
Growing up I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to pursue a career that allowed me to help and work with children. During my freshman year of college at the University of Cincinnati, I became a Child Life volunteer here at Cincinnati Children’s. This experience allowed me to spend quality time with patients and learn what it is like to work with many medical professionals. During my volunteer experience as well as my undergraduate experience, I learned more about the radiology field and decided to shadow the Cincinnati Children’s Radiology Department. These experiences made me realize that working in the radiology field would allow me to help children and understand their story, collaborate with a variety of specialized medical professionals, and communicate effectively with patients and their families.
In my free time, I like to play indoor soccer and sand volleyball. I also enjoy going to breweries, trying new restaurants, and traveling! The last movie I watched was The Bee Movie with my nephew and the last book I read was Wonky Donkey with my nephew.
Hi, my name is Kayla Coleman. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati last August.
I grew up here in Cincinnati on the West side. One thing I love about this city, and what keeps me residing in Cincinnati, is my friends and family. They make Cincinnati home for me. Also, a major plus of Cincinnati is Skyline Chili.
I knew I always had a love for healthcare, so I thought radiology would be a great fit for me. Once I saw what MRI is like through school and clinical, I knew this is what I wanted to do. I love the personal connections, inventiveness, and opportunities the MRI field provides for me.
My dream job has always been at Cincinnati Children’s. I want to be a part of the mission of providing great care to children. I have a natural instinct with kids and now I get to bring my dreams to fruition.
My hobbies include traveling, reading, spending time with friends and family, taking my dog on walks, and watching reality T.V.
The last movie I saw was Spider-Man: No Way Home. The last book I read was Ugly Love by Collen Hoover. She is such a great author and I am obsessed with all her books.
Hi, I’m Erin McNamara, and I’m from Camp Springs, Kentucky, which is about 25 minutes southeast of Cincinnati. Growing up, I loved going to Cincinnati sporting events and enjoying the small-town life while being so close to a big city. I graduated from the University of Cincinnati Advanced Medical Imaging Technology program, certified in magnetic resonance imaging and nuclear medicine.
I knew I wanted to work in radiology when I was 13. I injured myself in competitive cheerleading and got a nuclear medicine bone scan at Cincinnati Children’s. The technologists doing my scan were so sweet to me and made me feel comfortable on one of the scariest days of my life. While scared, I still thought it was the coolest thing ever. I would go on to get more X-rays and an MRI for other injuries. I was set on becoming a technologist someday, fascinated by the process.
Cincinnati Children’s has always been my dream! Working in a nationally recognized hospital and being able to make the radiology experience a positive one for every family is something I have always strived for.
In my free time I love to practice yoga, work out, ski, spend time with my pets, and adventure around the Cincinnati area.
The last movie I saw was the new Batman… I loved it! I am also a huge fan of TV show series on Netflix, so if anyone has any recommendations let me know! (I love suspense.)
