Last week, the Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s was named a semifinalist in the Best Radiologist Training Program by AuntMinnie.com. Our department is the first and only children’s hospital to be nominated and the only department that does not have its own residency program. This honor reflects the dedication to teaching that permeates every role in our department.
Everyday many trainees pass through our department and are taught by our dedicated faculty and staff. Our technologists, nurses, child life specialists, reading room assistants, and radiologists all work together to teach students in different roles and at different levels of training. We know that teaching others forces us to model the best practices so that together, we can take better care of your child.

Our commitment to education does not end in our department. Our faculty are known across the world-wide pediatric radiology community as leaders in education. Each year, our faculty members are invited to speak at national and international conferences on various topics such as pediatric imaging, MRI physics, quality improvement, imaging information systems, and customer service. In addition to lecturing, our faculty members author the definitive text books and online resources in the community. Recently, we have also branched out to teaching other medical professionals via our social media channels on Twitter and Instagram.
While we are honored to have been recognized for these efforts, we do not teach for the recognition. We know that the real benefit of teaching is that it allows us to ensure that all of the children our trainees care for later in their careers will be treated with respect and compassion.
