Happy Valentine’s Day from Radiology!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Radiology!

From Cincinnati Children’s Radiology Department, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Valentine’s Day!

In the Greek language, there are several words for LOVE: Eros (romantic), Philia (authentic friendship), Ludus (playful love), Agápe (universal love), Pragma (long-standing love) and Philautia (self love). Vena amoris is a Latin term meaning “vein of love.” Traditional belief established that this vein ran directly from the fourth finger of the left hand to the heart. This theory has been cited in Western cultures as one of the reasons the engagement ring and/or wedding ring is placed on the fourth finger, or “ring finger.

As there are many words for LOVE or the reason why the HEART is the symbol of LOVE, in Radiology we can use several different technologies to view the human body in order to diagnose, monitor, or treat medical conditions. The video below is an example of the five various ways we can view the human heart.
