Inside Radiology

Post Date: April 19, 2023

The Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s is the leader in all things related to pediatric imaging. We offer cutting-edge imaging in every modality.

Dedicated pediatric technologists perform all imaging studies, and each imaging examination is read by a sub-specialist pediatric radiologist. We take a holistic approach to imaging, striving to provide the best experience for our patients and families at every step of imaging care. We have implemented a number of initiatives to help our patients and their families feel more comfortable. For example, the imaging experience is tailored to the needs of the child based on their disease, age, and stage of development. Our dedicated Child Life specialists help to design an experience on the day of the examination that is appropriate for the family’s needs. We believe in positive distraction techniques and have tools like iPads, toys, and video goggles with a selection of movies appropriate for each age to help children get through longer imaging studies. Other tools like practice or simulation help for particularly difficult imaging studies.

Finally, we also believe that the ideal patient experience does not end with imaging. We have worked to image enable our patient portal and allow patients to ask radiologists questions through the portal. All of these things help to make for the ideal experience for our patients and families.
