We have seven new Radiology Clinical Fellows this year. I can still remember our former 2019 Fellows; the year does goes by fast when you’re working hard and enjoying your work at the same time.
Let’s begin with our first fellow, Dr. Andrew Sung. He comes to us from the great state of Hawaii.
“Aloha! My name is Andrew Sung, and I’m originally from a small town in Hawaii called Mililani. I attended medical school and completed residency at the University of California San Diego.”
Dr. Sung chose the field of Radiology because it’s the most interesting speciality. From all the advanced imaging techniques to the wide breadth of pathology, he never finds himself bored at work.
His hobbies includes running, biking, and hiking. The last book he read was Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, which was the basis of the movie Blade Runner. “It’s a great short read, and I recommend it!”
Next we have Dr. Stacey Elangovan, who originated from Wilmington, North Carolina. She earned her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine, completed an internship at the University of Cincinnati, and finished her residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
“From the time I was a medical student, I was struck by the way radiologists can use non-invasive techniques to make a huge difference in patient care. From making a difficult diagnosis by using a well-chosen imaging study to performing image-guided procedures to maximize patient comfort and minimize recovery time, radiologists are critical members of the patient care team.”
Dr. Elangovan currently lives in Cincinnati with her husband, Arvind. Her parents, brother and niece all live back in North Carolina.
In her off time she enjoys cooking, reading, traveling, singing karaoke, and bar trivia. She is also a bit of a roller coaster enthusiast. The last movie she saw in the theater was Shazam! “It was so bad it was good!”
From Lake Providence, Louisiana, we have Dr. Virginia “Jenna” Brown. She attended medical school at LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Brown completed her Radiology residency training at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.
“As a former micro preemie, I went into medicine and specifically Pediatric Radiology with the hope of one day “paying it forward” by being able to provide exceptional medical care for children in need much the same way that my doctors have done for me throughout my life. I am very fortunate and excited to be able to fulfill what I believe to be a part of my life’s purpose at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.”
Her family resides in Lake Providence, Louisiana, and Lake Village, Arkansas. She have one younger brother who lives in Bakersfield California.
Dr. Brown’s hobbies and interests include writing, interior design, tennis, boating, as well as spending quality time with great friends and family. Those who know her well know that she’s a true car enthusiast, and that she enjoys exploring a new city the most from behind the wheel.
Dr. Nadeen Abu Ata grew up in Jerusalem. She went to medical school at the University of Jordan in Amman, Jordan.
“I find pediatric radiology interesting because it is a diverse, complex and challenging subspeciality. There is always something new to learn! and the continuity of care is strongly present in this field.”
In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and traveling. She love pilates, reading and spending time with her family. The last book she read was Becoming by Michelle Obama.
She is proud and excited about being part of this prestigious institute, and she think’s Cincinnati Children’s will help her become who she want to be.
