Each year, the Radiology Department supports four University of Cincinnati (UC) medical students to participate in our Radiology Summer Medical Student Research Program.

Four UC medical students in between their 1st and 2nd years of medical school are each paired with a Cincinnati Children’s Radiology faculty mentor to assist on a radiology research project for 8-10 weeks during the summer. Students gather and analyze data while learning about pediatric imaging. Typically, the students also spend time rotating throughout the various areas of the department shadowing our faculty.

Alex Glenn comes to us from Little Rock, Arkansas. She graduated from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Exercise and Sports Science – Athletic Training and Communications focusing in Media Production. Her faculty mentors will be Drs. Dillman and Trout. In her free time Alex enjoys playing tennis, watching her favorite Chicago sports teams, and spending time with friends and family.

Gillian Null is from Columbus, OH. She recently graduated from the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University with degrees in Biological Sciences and Political Science. This summer Gillian will be working with Dr. Jason Woods and Dr. Nara Higano on a project quantifying regional ventilation in NICU patients. Her favorite hobbies are cooking and yoga.

Kristin Lam comes to us from the San Francisco Bay Area. She graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in Neuroscience. Her faculty mentor will be Dr. Yuan and she will be working on a project called, “Fetal DTI and its clinical applications.” Outside of school, she enjoys playing soccer.

Sam Schilling comes to us from the Cleveland, Ohio area. She graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Biology and a minor focusing on Design Thinking. Under the faculty mentorship of Dr. Alex Towbin, her project will explore trends in imaging workload and chart addendums among radiologists and the potential association with physician burnout. Sam’s favorite pastimes are exploring Cincinnati’s Metroparks and stand-up paddleboarding.
