Radiology celebrates Patient Experience Week

Radiology celebrates Patient Experience Week

Patient Experience Week is April 23-27 this year. This is an annual event, initially started by the Beryl Institute (a global community of practice dedicated to improving the patient experience through collaboration and shared knowledge). During this week, hospitals across the nation take added time to honor not only patients but also employees and focus on the impact that employees have on the patient and family experience. In the Department of Radiology we will remind our employees how thankful we are for all that they do to connect with our patients and families, and ultimately give them the best experience possible.

Events this week will include sharing peer-nominated patient experience awards and a day with treats and activities for our employees. We will also have a patient experience challenge for our front line staff each day, and many of us will dress in our favorite Hollywood actor/actress attire. In addition, we will have a “give back” opportunity for employees to donate needed items to the Ronald McDonald House.

For our patients undergoing imaging studies, we will have special activities in our waiting room, including a place to take selfies with movie star props and “Star” coloring pages and stickers. If we are lucky, we might even have a return visit from Woody and Jessie from the movie Toy Story.

Our guest this year will be the dynamic speaker Mr. James Mary from our faculty development office. He will discuss how good communication can lead to a happier work environment with families and co-workers.

Contributed by Dr. Bernadette Koch and edited by Glenn Miñano, BFA.
