Pediatric Radiology Faculty Reflects on His Decision to Stay at Cincinnati Children’s

In the summer of 2017, I moved to Cincinnati from New Jersey to start my pediatric radiology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s. Although the year was intensive, I woke up each morning excited knowing that I was gaining invaluable knowledge and experiences every day that were building me into a good pediatric radiologist. At the end of the year, I was amazed by how much I had learned in such a short amount of time that I decided to postpone “getting a real job” in favor of doing a subspecialty fellowship year in body and musculoskeletal imaging with this department that had already provided me so much education.

Following that year, I was offered an opportunity to stay at Cincinnati Children’s permanently as a faculty radiologist. This was a massive opportunity for me, and to say that I was humbled by the offer would be an understatement. The thought of joining such an elite group of radiologists at one of the best children’s hospitals in the country seemed like a no brainer; however, the one downfall was that it meant settling down in a new city for the first time in my life – and in the process, away from everyone important to me back home in Jersey.

As it turns out, what was even more valuable to me than the training I had received were the relationships I had built during this new endeavor. Everyone — from the radiologists and trainees, to our wonderfully skillful technologists, the helpful reading room assistants, and the hardworking administrative/support staff — have been the most welcoming and congenial people that I could have ever hoped to meet from day one. I am grateful to have had the privilege of working alongside these awesome people for over two years now and have been fortunate enough to become close friends with many of them. This work-family continues to be the reason I am happy and excited to come to work every morning, which in turn allows me to be in the best possible mindset to do my job.

In the end, it is the people who comprise our Radiology Department at Cincinnati Children’s that makes being a radiologist here a dream job for me.
