On Sunday, March 19, members of the Outpatient Radiology team at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital bundled up and gathered downtown for the Mini Heart Walk. The Cincinnati Mini Heart Marathon is an annual event that started about 40 years ago. It began as one race, the 15-kilometer, but has since expanded into a variety of races: the original 15k, a half marathon, a 5k race, a 5k walk, and a 2k kids’ race. This year, 27,000 people participated either competitively or for fun.
The American Heart Association (AHA) organizes the events, and proceeds go towards funding heart disease research and education. Heart disease is the number one killer worldwide, and stroke ranks second. Nearly everyone has been affected in one way or another by this terrible illness. For nearly one hundred years, the AHA has been working to save and improve lives across the nation.
A great part of this experience is forming teams with our respective work departments to promote a healthy lifestyle and raise money for a great cause. Cincinnati Children’s formed over 50 departmental teams this year, and as a whole, raised over $65,000. The Outpatient Radiology group joined together for the 5k walk. Although it was a freezing 27-degree morning, the sun was brightly shining, and it warmed everyone’s spirits. The streets were packed with people, strollers, and even dogs. Many groups were dressed in festive costumes or carrying team signs. It was a social affair. Peoples’ mouths were moving as fast as their legs. Angie has been part of the Cincinnati Children’s Radiology family since 1996. Over the years, she has worked in X-Ray, Cat Scan, and most recently in MRI. Currently, she is part of the Outpatient MRI Team, primarily working at the Liberty Township, Green Township, and Kenwood Campuses. Angie enjoys working in a stimulating environment and learning new things each day. In her free time, she stays active with her husband, two teenage daughters, and her Golden Retriever, Sonny.

Glenn Miñano is a media specialist in the Department of Radiology, providing graphic design, photography, printing, video services, and administration of the department’s online properties. His works have been published in several medical articles, such as the American Journal of Radiology and the American Institute of Ultrasound. He has been providing these services to the Radiology Department since 1996.
