A tiny heel prick and a few drops of blood after birth can reveal important information about a baby’s health.

But what happens if the results from a newborn screening aren’t what you expected? On the latest episode of the Infant Series on the Young & Healthy podcast, host Kate Setter sits down with genetic counselors Lisa Berry, MS, LGC and Cecilia Goueli, MS, LGC to unpack what families should know about newborn screenings.

Lisa and Cecilia share and discuss:

  • How newborn screenings are performed in the hospital
  • What families can expect if results come back abnormal
  • What false positives mean and how they affect families
  • What options exist for at-home newborn screenings
  • How to find support if a diagnosis is confirmed

This episode is full of practical guidance for parents navigating an unfamiliar process. Grab your headphones and join the conversation to feel more prepared and confident about your baby’s care.
