In this episode of the Young & Healthy podcast…

Host Bo McMillan sits down with social worker Ashley Cremeans to explore the important role of boundaries in childhood development. Teaching kids about boundaries from an early age helps build confidence and independence, but many parents wonder where to start. Ashley shares insights on how simple practices—like allowing kids to say no to hugs or respecting privacy during dressing and bathing—can foster a strong sense of self.

They also dive into how boundaries evolve over time, why respecting others’ boundaries is just as crucial as setting your own, and how cultural and family norms shape these conversations. Plus, get practical tips on guiding kids to recognize that privacy is both earned and deserved, handling tricky boundary-crossing moments, setting healthy social media limits, and more.

Don’t miss this insightful conversation on raising self-aware, empowered kids! Be sure to share this episode with fellow parents and caregivers and follow Young & Healthy for more expert advice to support your child’s development.

Really loved this episode — the tip about letting kids say “no” to hugs (when they want to) is so important and often overlooked. Boundaries like that help them see they have control over their own bodies.
