It’s officially time to register for the 2014 Cincinnati Walks for Kids and we are so excited that we will once again be walking at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden!

Several elements of the walk will be the same as last year, but we’re excited about some great new changes for 2014. Here are all of the details:

Who: Cincinnati Children’s and you!

What: Cincinnati Walks for Kids – a scenic half-mile stroll through the Zoo to celebrate and raise money for Cincinnati Children’s.

For participants wondering about walking up (or down!) the big “bear hill” at the Zoo while pushing wheelchairs or strollers, don’t worry. While you’ll be free to explore the entire zoo on your own after the walk, our route avoids the big hills to ensure an enjoyable experience for everyone.

When: Saturday, Sept. 27 at 4:30 pm. Check-in will take place from 4:30-5:30 pm.

This year we’re introducing a whole new way to start the walk – a rolling start! Once you check in, you can walk the route and cross the finish line at your own pace – or you can take advantage of the fun lined up for walker check-in, including:

  • Complimentary face painting– there will also be face painting inside at the Safari Camp Maasai Mara shelter
  • Easy-to-find team meet-up and photo area
  • Free fruit and Queen City Sausage samples
  • Water stations
  • Shade tents to keep cool

Where: Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden (Directions and Parking)

Why: To raise money to support the Cincinnati Children’s mission and to celebrate all of our patients and their families.

How: Register to walk, join a team or create a team. Registration is $25 for adults and $5 for children 17 years old and younger. All registered participants will receive an official 2014 Cincinnati Walks for Kids T-shirt, a personal online fundraising page and exclusive admission to the Zoo for the evening of the walk.

To round out the walk experience this year, we’re adding some excitement to the Finish Area including:

  • Ribbons for all of our walkers
  • Free fruit and water
  • Eat, Drink and Play Like an Animal activities for kids
  • Live musical entertainment

You can keep up with Cincinnati Walks for Kids via Facebook and Twitter. We’ll be using #cincywalks and encourage you to do the same. And all of the information you need for registration, fundraising and planning can be found at cincywalks.org.

Please know that our team is available to answer any of your questions all the way through walk day! We hope to see you on September 27th – it’ll be a wild time for all!
