Celery and Food Coloring Experiment | Pin of the Week

Celery and Food Coloring Experiment | Pin of the Week
February 20, 2014

I have long been a fan of science. I like to understand how and why things work the way they do.

I remember an experiment in 7th grade science class where we peeled the membrane off of a layer of onion and looked at it under a microscope. I still think of that experiment every time I chop an onion.

In the interest of full disclosure, I don’t remember the exact lesson associated with the onion, but it was cool, it made an impression and certainly made me look more closely at the structures of plants. Thank you for that, Mr. Tuttle!

Now, as a parent, I have been looking for simple science activities for my young children. This Celery and Food Coloring Science Experiment from Jaime at Frogs, Snails and Puppy Dog Tails is going to be perfect for us to try this weekend!

Check it out and let us know if you try it with your own kids.
